It is truly a privilege and honor to have been elected to serve  the City of New Haven-Ward 26 (Upper Westville). I look forward to continue being an effective communicator, one who empowers, you the citizen, to become advocates for social justice and equal rights for all.          



Darryl J. Brackeen, Jr. has been a champion for the issues that New Haven residents care about. Alder Brackeen was Ward 26's first Alder to create aldermanic advisories, which includes the Ward 26 social committee, public safety advisory, Westville block watch initiative,complete streets advisory, leadership council, elderly & homeless advisory, and supported the Green Hills Garden Club 

What has Brackeen done so far?

1.Crime & Quality of Life:

-Alder Brackeen created Ward 26's first neighborhood public safety task force. Which was designed to focus on creating block watches and the feasibility of a neighborhood police satellite location. 

- Championed the replacement of (Ward 26) 75% of the street lighting to LED lights. 

-Championed the Westville Block Watch Initiative

2.Taxes & PILOT:

-Alder Brackeen co-sponsored and championed support to increase in PILOT funding, to offset the cost of non-taxable properties in the City of New Haven

-Alder Brackeen championed legislation to decrease the mayor's proposed tax increase.

3. Jobs:

-Co-Sponsor of the Board of Alder's adopted legislative jobs agenda. 

-Co-sponsor of proposed ordinance of the, "Employment of New Haven Residents on City projects" legislation.

4. Environment:

-Championed the passage of the, "Clean-Air Act" resolution, making the City of New Haven the 80th city to adopt this legislation nationwide.

- Supported State of CT House Bill-5330, to extend the pesticide ban to parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and municipal greens in CT.

-Created the city's first,"Clean Air & Energy Taskforce"

5. Seniors:

-Championed "My Ride" legislation to create a partnership with the Greater New Haven Transit District, Rep. Rosa Delauro, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, in order to create the campaign, "It Makes Cents".

-Supported the development of Bella Vista which received 45 million dollar's in GAP funding over 3 years. 


Brackeen has also supported a city-wide agenda adopted by the New Haven Board of Alder's . This focused on jobs, youth, crime, quality of life, and commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Brackeen is also proud to have marched, petitioned, and supported countless civil rights issues, the creation of unions (GESO), and civic groups.
